In addition to the public school, Limestone hosts Maine's first and only charter high school, the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM). The charter school was passed by the 116th Legislature and is designed to serve 300 of Maine's most capable sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The MSSM opened in September 1995 and is completing its fourth successful year of operation. Both LCS and MSSM provide all students with the educational needs to meet today's challenges. Caribou Vocational School is available to our secondary students who wish to study technical careers such as nursing and electronics. The Caribou Vocational School is also open to adults who wish to complete diploma requirements. Limestone School has an ITV satellite service connected with the University of Maine Systems to provide college level course without the need to travel long distances. Other post secondary education opportunities are provided at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Northern Maine Technical College in Presque Isle, Pierre School of Beauty Culture in Caribou, and Husson College extension courses in Caribou. |
